Tucked away in the basement of the Healing Arts Centre on Bruce St., you will find one of the Sault’s newest yoga studios. But rest assured, this is not your typical run of the mill studio! MVMT Yoga opened in November of 2018 and its name is inspired by owner Cara Russon’s firm belief that movement is medicine — and it truly is.

Movement is something we all likely need more of, but for some people, movement can be difficult for a number of reasons.

One of Cara’s key objectives with her classes and programs is to help people move better and feel better, and based on conversations with several of her members, it is something she excels at.

Through her background in nursing and eighteen years as a yoga practitioner, both as a participant and then as a trained yoga instructor, she has become really adept at helping people to move and feel better in their bodies.

Having personally taken several of her classes over the years, it is apparent that she has developed a unique style of instruction and what really shines through is her enthusiasm and true desire to see people progress in whatever goals they may be working on.

Members credit Cara for making a huge difference in their lives and have nothing but praise for the instruction they receive at the MVMT Yoga studio.

The studio has only been open since November of 2018 but with very little advertising and formal promotion, a loyal following has developed primarily because of her genuine, kind nature and fun teaching style.

Member Theresa Letang, one of the studio’s first clients, had this to say about Cara:  “Cara is a very attentive instructor, and she really gets to know her members which allows her to personalize her instruction for each of them.  My husband became a member a few months ago because he saw the positive changes in me.”

High praise indeed!

On the day I visited the studio, ten year old Lilly-Ann stated that “Cara is a great teacher.  She is very encouraging and this is a great place to come and let go!”

Another member, Judy Pratt, who has been dealing with chronic back pain, has worked with Cara since June and has noticed a huge difference in her mobility.

Member Linda Kiraly echoes the positive sentiments and stressed that Cara gives 100 per cent to everyone and really cares about her members, thus people can’t help but love coming to class.

The decision to open her own studio after working at several other fitness facilities was not an easy one but Cara credits the encouragement of one of her biggest mentors that gave her the confidence to take a chance and find a location of her own.

Cara is quite frank in stating that at times, she recognizes that she may not be able to help someone with an issue they are dealing with and in those cases, she is happy to recommend other professionals.  She has nothing but positive things to say about the yoga community in Sault Ste. Marie and there is room for everyone.

For information on the schedule and types of classes offered, visit the website at www.mvmtyoga.com.  Most classes are yoga based but there are also two HIIT style classes.

Pricing options include a straight $15/class, 13 classes/13 weeks for $135, unlimited classes for $85/month.

For those wanting to see what classes are like, head to the studio on Tuesdays where both classes — at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  — are pay what you can/$5 minimum, which is a great deal and affordable way to try out a class.

And as someone who feels that music plays a big part in how much you enjoy a yoga class, I am happy to report that Cara plays great music!

You are all invited to the MVMT Yoga studio, located at 426 Bruce St. to feel how good feeling good feels!
