Terry’s Labour Day message

Sault Business Matters has received the following message from Sault member of parliament Terry Sheehan relative to Labour Day.

Before my election to the House of Commons in 2015, I was a member of a union, very much a positive, learning and growing experience.

Now, I watch as the year 2020 continues to present unprecedented challenges for labour. Never before have I been more inspired and comforted by the courage and professionalism of workers in Canada, including the many who live in Sault Ste. Marie.

As we gather to honour our workers this Labour Day, may we be mindful of the danger facing those workers on the front line as they prepare for and confront the challenges being thrust upon them by the COVID 19 epidemic.

Many of these workers have been deemed “essential” to our health and well-being and they have taken that responsibility very seriously.

Healthcare workers, education workers, food industry workers, men and women in the trades are doing their best to support us in this time of crisis.

The Canadian government continues to be impressed by the labour movement and the many contributions they have made to our society as a whole.

I extend warm greetings to all workers in the Sault and thank them for their continuing efforts to improve our workplaces and our community.

— Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie
