Jake Lake is the proud owner of fast-growing Laker Express Inc., which is now a corporation as of January 1, 2023.  He started his business in 2014 as a contractor for Muskoka Delivery Service.

Before that he worked in Ottawa driving for FedEx where he used to deliver to Parliament, as well as along the Rideau Canal and in Gatineau, Quebec where coincidentally he got engaged as well.  He even provided delivery services all the way to Cornwall too and the little places in between. He applied twice to Muskoka Delivery Service before he finally got the job.

The first time he applied, the manager  told him that he was overqualified for the job since he has a Political Science Degree from  Algoma University. Muskoka Delivery Service was bought by Transforce in 2016 and turned into Canpar Express. After taking over as the primary contractor for Canpar Express, he was able to acquire seven other routes since then, totalling eight at Canpar Express. Laker Express now every corner of the Sault covered.

In addition, Laker Express Inc.  also just acquired Wawa, Chapleau, Hornepayne, White River, and Dubreuilville as of March 6, 2023. They will have a linehaul for Wawa, four or five times each week.

The growing corporation has also picked up delivery contracts along the way. In 2021, Laker Express started delivering furniture for Surplus Furniture. They offer same day in town delivery when people purchase there. By far their most popular delivery option is their half price front door drop. They have also worked with Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS), and Nogdawindamin as well. They offer delivery of furniture from Garden River to Blind River, and Heyden to Montreal River once a week. They plan on offering four days a week furniture delivery up north in the future.

Laker Express Inc. also offers a moving service ranging from entire houses full of belongings, to just an appliance someone bought from the Classifieds.  Let the capable team of Laker Express help take the stress out of your next big move!

Our readers will even be surprised to learn that they have even delivered vital vaccines for newborns recently that were rushed to the Sault by airplane.

In 2022, Jake acquired the Cardinal Couriers contract which delivers auto parts, and more LTL (less than trailer load) deliveries. With their lift gate truck, they have the ability to move pallets and large items that come with the Cardinal contract and others.

In addition, Laker Express Inc.  also offers a small cleaning service currently being under contract to clean the Canpar terminal offices, bathrooms etc with plans to expand this year on these types of services.  They also offer a car/truck wash service every two weeks with plans to expand to a mobile wash this spring. The mobile wash will have the ability to power wash entire fleets of vehicles as they arrive back at their home base.

Jake is definitely a very driven individual and he tells Sault Business Matters that he has plans to expand to other cities and make the Sault proud, like other successful local businesses such as McDougall Energy and GFL. In total, Laker Express Inc. with the expansions planned will employ eleven full time and three part time employees.  Laker Express is very proud of the fact that they are one of only a handful certified Ontario Living Wage Employers in Sault Ste. Marie making them a great employer. Laker Express Inc. is here for you for all your shipping and courier service needs!
