One year for Lil’s Asian Cuisine

Happy anniversary! On April 20, 2022, Lil’s Asian Cuisine opened its doors at 112 March Street and the reception Lil and her friendly team have experienced from the local community is something she and her partner Garry are very, very grateful for — and they have found it truly heartwarming.

Opening a restaurant during a challenging time across the country is both daunting and daring but when you have winning food, a genuine passion for cooking great food, a unique menu that others aren’t offering, you can succeed and Lil and her team have done just that.

One of the first things you will notice when you visit Lil’s Asian Cuisine is how friendly everyone is and you are immediately made to feel like you are family. She and her partner Garry, who helps as the manager/host, often come out to chat with guests dining in and you just know how genuine they are and you know they truly appreciate their customers.

Now let’s talk about the food, the amazing food!  Lil, who is of Filipino descent, specializes in Filipino dishes from noodles (pancit), flavourful soups, rice, curry dishes, Southeast Asian favourites like Singapore noodles and Beef Pad Sew and a large variety of Asian inspired dishes.  The spring rolls are the most delicious you will ever eat, hands down.

Some of the most popular items include her Pad Thai, and a dish lovingly referred to as Lil’s Special noodles which can be adjusted to your preferred spice level.  In fact, because everything is made to order, she is always very accommodating to cater to any special dietary requests.  A personal favourite of this writer is the mango salad which is so fresh and a delight for the tastebuds and if you are like me and not a huge fan of cilantro, she will omit it!  The menu is both vegan and celiac friendly.  Portions are quite generous so you can always count on leftovers!

She and her husband moved to the city in 2020 and for a while she operated privately without a storefront. But steady business quickly showed Lil that there was a market for Filipino food in our community and she decided to find a storefront location.  What has helped them succeed in a tough industry is that they offer something unique that was missing in our community’s food scene.  Prior to opening Lil’s Asian Cuisine here in Sault Ste. Marie,  Lil owned her own Filipino restaurant in Southwestern Ontario for eleven years and she also worked at a restaurant in British Columbia for two years.

The local location offers some dine-in tables, and they offer takeout and delivery and they are now on Skip the Dishes as well.  Reservations are possible and pre-ordering for larger orders is definitely recommended.  You can also contact Lil’s Asian Cuisine for catering your special event as well!  To reach them, give them a call at 705-253-6111 or stop by at 112 March Street.  Follow them on Facebook to see their daily specials which are quite often featured there.

Current hours of operation are Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m to 8 p.m.
