Officials from the Mackinac Bridge have issued a high wind warning as of 10:15 this morning, Sault Business Matters has confirmed.

Winds of sufficient force in the Straits area — which is about 50 miles south of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie — are enough to issue a warning to all motorists who may be planning to cross the Mackinac Bridge today.

All motorists are advised to reduce their speed to a maximum of 20 miles per hour, turn on their four-way flashers and utilize the outside lane. Motorists are asked to exercise appropriate caution.

Meanwhile, the Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring wind speeds at various points along the structure. Additional steps will be implemented if conditions change.
