The way we were, in photos

Ah, the old days. Let us hop on an old city bus and peruse a few snapshots from the archives of just some of what was Sault Ste. Marie in the 1960s and 1970s.

Besides having rooms for rent, the Caswell Motor Hotel on Trunk Road was home to a restaurant that served breakfast, lunch and dinner. It also featured an upstairs lounge and a downstairs bar with separate entrances for men and women.
The much-loved Joe Chow, taking a short break to watch television (probably a baseball game.) Joe was one of the brothers who owned the venerable Victoria House Tavern (aka The Vic) on Pim Street.
The venerable “Vic.” Say no more.
The Royal Hotel was located on the corner of Queen and Gore streets.

The Purple Lantern, on Great Northern Road.
CJIC 1050 was one of two AM radio stations that served the Sault Ste. Marie area.

CKCY was the other AM radio station that was on air live, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
