And the candidates are …
Five candidates seeking to represent Sault Ste. Marie in the House of Commons have now been confirmed ahead of the October 21 federal election.
The Green Party of Sault Ste. Marie is the latest to announce its candidate for the 43rd Canadian general election.
Geordon (Geo) Mclean will carry the Green Party banner. The 24-year old Mclean was born and raised in the Sault and currently works in the social services industry.
Mclean, Conservative Party candidate Sonny Spina, New Democratic Party representative Sara McCleary and Amy Zuccato of the People’s Party of Canada will all try to unseat current Sault Ste. Marie member of parliament Terry Sheehan of the governing Liberal Party.
The Liberals currently hold a majority government with 177 seats. The Conservatives have 95 seats, the NDP has 40 and the Green Party has two.
This will mark the first election for the aforementioned People’s Party of Canada, which was formed less than a year ago, in September of 2018.
