Conservative Party candidate Sonny Spina has opened his campaign headquarters at 109 Queen St. E. — on the corner of Tancred St. — in the Sault’s downtown.

Among family members and party supporters, Spina was joined by Conservative member of parliament for Durham, Erin O’Toole, at Friday’s campaign office launch.

The upcoming federal election is slated for October 21 and Spina will try to gain Conservative representation for the Sault in the House of Commons when the 43rd Canadian general election is held.

He will be up against four other local candidates.

Sara McCleary of the New Democratic Party, Geordon (Geo) Mclean of the Green Party and Amy Zuccato of the People’s Party of Canada will all try to unseat current Sault MP Terry Sheehan of the governing Liberal Party.

The Liberals currently hold a majority government with 177 seats. The Conservatives have 95 seats, the NDP has 40 and the Green Party has two.
