Sheehan holds Sault seat
Running on his record — and running a clean campaign — was more than enough for Terry Sheehan to retain his seat in the House of Commons as the Liberal member of parliament for the Sault.
In a clear-cut victory, Sheehan out-distanced Conservative challenger Sonny Spina and New Democratic Party warrior Sara McCleary as Canada’s 43th general election ended with a minority government for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals.
When the ballots were all counted, the Sault riding spoke in overwhelming favour of Sheehan, who tallied 16,084 votes.
Spina had to settle for second with 13,352 votes while the hard-working McCleary, a young married mother of two, came in third with 9,317 pencil points.
McCleary was clearly visible on the local campaign trail as the portrait of a personable and positive candidate. She was gracious in defeat as well, noting that “this wasn’t the result we were looking for but I think we ran a good campaign, and honestly, if it couldn’t be me, I’m glad it’s Terry.”
Geo Mclean of the Green Party managed 1,781 votes and Amy Zuccato of the People’s Party of Canada had 733 voters on her side.
