Looming on local radio
It’s been about two decades since a local news talk show aired on a Sault radio station. But that is about to change, Sault Business Matters has confirmed.
Beginning in February, radio station Eagle 95.1 will broadcast Twin Sault Talk. The weekly show is slated to air on Sunday at noon and will be hosted by veteran local commentator Andy Martens.
Martens was one of the original — and most popular — columnists for local website Soo Today when it debuted about 20 years ago under the watch of the late Dick Peplow. The effervescent Martens is well known for his community involvement and his views on matters pertaining to the Sault.
Tim Ellis, who is the morning show host and program director at Eagle 95.1, told Sault Business Matters that Twin Sault Talk will debut on a still-to-be-determined Sunday in February.
“We are working on our launch date as we speak,” relayed Ellis, who along with his wife, Lindsay, took over ownership of Eagle 95.1 less than two years ago.
Community talk radio has a long history in the Sault, dating back to when Russ Hilderley and then the late Harry Wolfe hosted Open Mike on erstwhile station CKCY several decades ago.
Later, the late John Campbell hosted Contact on CJQM (aka Q104) before the show was dropped circa 2002.
