All new Hockey North Show
There will be significant changes to the Hockey North Show when the well established program returns to the airwaves in mid November for its annual 25 week gig.
For one, the Hockey North Show with Randy Russon and Brad Coccimiglio is moving to a new radio home, Eagle 95.1 — on line via www.eagleradio951.com — from its former ESPN 1400 spot.
As well, the Hockey North Show will be broadcast live on Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. (as opposed to Tuesdays) and as a bonus, all editions will be recorded and archived on www.eagleradio951.com as well as the Eagle 95.1 Facebook page for replay on demand.
The decision to leave ESPN 1400 for Eagle 95.1 was not made lightly according to Russon, the veteran sports writer who has hosted the Hockey North Show for 10 years.
“Having the shows recorded and available on line and for on line replay were the main factors,” relayed Russon. “It just made sense to go in a different direction with the Eagle.”
Russon added that the aforementioned Coccimiglio, who has been a regular on the program for a number of years, will take on more responsibility as a contributor to the Hockey North Show, noting that “as fellow local sports writers, we have always worked well together.”
Coccimiglio, from his end, said he is “fired up” to be making the move to Eagle Radio.
“Randy and I have a good history together,” Coccimiglio noted. “It is flattering and an honour to continue to be a part of the Hockey North Show.”
Meanwhile, Tim Ellis, who owns, operates and is the morning show host on Eagle 95.1, said “we welcome Randy, Brad and the Hockey North Show to the Eagle family. This is exciting for us as a local radio station.”
Of further note, the Hockey North Show will be now broadcast live (on Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m.) from Reggie’s Place Tavern in the Sault’s downtown.
Little Caesars of Sault, Ontario will once again be on board as the major sponsor of the Hockey North Show.
Besides covering the Soo Eagles and Espanola Express of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and the NOJHL itself, other features of the Hockey North Show will include segments on the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League, the Lake Superior State University Lakers of the Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association, and minor hockey in Sault Ste. Marie.
