Mayor for a day contest
EDITOR’S NOTE: Sault Business Matters has received the following media release from the office of Mayor Matthew Shoemaker.
Do you want to be the Mayor for a day?
The City of Sault Ste. Marie is accepting submissions for the 2023 Mayor for a Day contest. Students are asked to submit a letter, video or any other creative piece that answers these questions:
· Why would you like to be the Mayor for a day?
· If you were the Mayor, what would you do?
· What are the things you like most about Sault Ste. Marie?
“The Mayor for a Day contest is a great way to engage local youth in municipal government,” said Mayor Matthew Shoemaker. “One of the members of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council was previously recognized in the Mayor for a Day contest – you never know where participation in an initiative like this might lead. I’m looking forward to reviewing the submissions and meeting the winner.”
The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 2 and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, June 6. The winner will open the City Council meeting on Monday, June 19, and will also receive a pizza party for their class, a tour of the Civic Centre and a meeting with the mayor.
Entries may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed/delivered in person to the Civic Centre front reception at 99 Foster Dr. Participants may submit only one idea per entry, and the contest is open to Grade 5 and Grade 6 students.
Participants must submit a fully completed application form. It is available online at: https://saultstemarie.ca/mayorforaday.
