Amped Up In Flames
EDITOR’S NOTE: Sault Business Matters has received the following media relative to a student run musical showcase via the music department at Superior Heights Collegiate.
The Superior Heights C. & V.S. music department is proud to announce the return of “AMPED UP,” the highly anticipated annual student-run musical showcase. This year’s theme is “UP IN FLAMES!” and will feature a broad range of student acts, including solos, duets, and full rock band performances. The show will be on February 8th at 7 PM in the cafeteria at Superior Heights C.& V.S.
Attendees can expect an evening filled with extraordinary performances, showcasing the exceptional musical talent of Superior Heights’ students offering a unique and unforgettable experience.
Admission to the event is $5. All proceeds will benefit the school’s music department with money raised contributing to new equipment and supporting the leadership development of arts students, including an exciting new recording project.
In addition to the outstanding musical performances, attendees can indulge in a delightful array of treats, including Superior Bakery Donuts, hot chocolate, and coffee, available for purchase at the event.
Evan Prieb, a Superior Heights senior and the event’s dedicated organizer, expressed his excitement, stating, “I am delighted to have the honour of presenting AMPED UP! this year. Organizing the event has been a joy, and everyone has contributed to the creative process. Attendees can expect flair from our performers, along with a wealth of expression and creativity. I am also excited to perform!” Prieb further encouraged the community to join in the celebration, remarking, “Everyone involved in bringing AMPED UP! to life this year has dedicated themselves to making it an exciting event. AMPED UP! is set to bring the fire this year, and we encourage people to bring their family and friends, as this will truly be an unforgettable experience.”
Unlike many typical school music concerts, this one is entirely student-run. It is both a leadership opportunity and a chance to mentor up and coming talent within the school community. Students learn about the promotional side as well as organizing the performers and the technical elements required to make a big production succeed.
Teacher mentor Ms. Sarah Cormier is thrilled to return to her role supporting students with this event. “It’s so amazing to see the students take on these responsibilities and put their passion toward something that benefits the whole school. I’m constantly floored at the creativity and ingenuity they bring to the table.”
There will be a few special guests appearing as well. Five staff members have volunteered to present their singing and guitar-playing abilities and will perform two songs. “It’s their way of showing the students that it’s okay to take a risk and try something new. The students love watching their teachers perform,” says Cormier. “They get a real kick out of it!”
Included in the event will be a short intermission as well as a trivia competition to “add some fun” to the evening, according to organizer Evan Prieb. “It’ll be fun to see the audience getting involved, competing for prizes.” The trivia topic is music based with many “complete the lyrics” questions.
“It’s just a different way to make the night special and hopefully make some good memories,” says Prieb.
Tickets can be purchased at the door. Donations to the Superior Heights C. & V.S. music program will also be accepted.
