Steelers are well grounded
With a record of 2-1, the Sault Steelers have three games remaining on the regular season slate as members of the newly formed Power 5 Football League. And it has been a good “run” thus far for the locals.
The Steelers have a road game against the Sarnia Imperials on July 6 before closing out the regular season with 7 p.m. home matches against the Sudbury Spartans on Saturday, July 13 and the Tri City Outlaws on Saturday, July 20. (Former Steelers player and coach Paul Caldbick will be inducted into the Northern Football Hall of Fame during the July 20 match.)
Thus far through three games in the P5FL, it has been the ground game of coach Jonathan Bujold that has the Steelers off and running. The Steelers boast the top three rushing leaders in the P5FL. Mike Reid has 194 yards on just 14 carries, Steve Hiiemaa has lugged the pigskin 30 times for 170 yards and Brock Hoover has 147 yards from 22 carries.
Through the three games, Steelers quarterback Ryan Yost has only had to throw the ball 18 times. But he has completed eight of those passes including three for touchdowns.
