Asima gives thanks to Ross
Ontario’s governing Progressive Conservative Party has come up with almost $100,000 for Algoma University as the school expands its facilities and programming as a means of increasing enrollment at its northern Ontario campuses in the Sault and Timmins.
Ross Romano, who is minister of colleges and universities and member of provincial parliament for the Sault, has confirmed an investment of $97,125 from the Ontario government via the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation so Algoma U can develop a campus master strategic plan.
The plan is intended help guide Algoma U as it strives to develop innovative programming and infrastructure that supports education and research activities that align with today’s industry needs.
“Our government is proud to help Algoma University enhance its learning environment to better support the development of a highly educated workforce,” relayed Romano. “With this investment, we are reinforcing the north’s competitive advantage and sending a signal that northern Ontario is open for business and open for jobs.”
Meanwhile, Asima Vezina, who is Algoma U’s president and vice-chancellor, noted that the funds “reinforce the ongoing commitment of the provincial government and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to support the efforts of Algoma University to position itself as a national leader in truth and reconciliation, as well as our efforts to quantify our economic impact and plan for future growth that will benefit the Algoma region and beyond.”
