There is good news relative to Sault College and its nursing degree program via the Sault’s member of provincial parliament Ross Romano, who also doubles as minister of colleges and universities for Ontario’s Progressive Conservative government.

That is, the Ontario government is making changes to permit colleges and universities to offer Bachelor of Science nursing degree programs on a stand-alone basis.

For colleges such as Sault College, this will be the first time they will be able to offer the BScN degree independently of a university partner.

To that end, Romano was at Sault College to announce a new nursing education policy that is designed to give students more choice around accessing a high-quality education in pursuit of career in registered nursing.

“This new pathway for nursing education will offer students greater choice and make it easier for them to pursue rewarding nursing careers,” relayed Romano.

Saut College president Dr. Ron Common displayed gratitude to Romano and the Ontario government.

“Granting colleges the ability to deliver a stand-alone nursing degree is a strong testament to the strength of our college programs, and further complements our ongoing commitment to offering a quality education,” noted Common.

“We are so grateful to Minister Romano and the provincial government for this opportunity to ensure more graduates enter the profession with the qualifications and the expertise to improve health-care delivery in our community,” added Common.

Sault College has partnered with Sudbury-based Laurentian University since 2001 in offering a collaborative BScN degree.
