Victim Services Algoma gets $
The government of Ontario is taking emergency action to address the recent spike in domestic violence that is being reported by victim services organizations during the COVID-19 crisis.
And as part of a province-wide emergency payment of more than $2.7 million to support services for victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes relative to the evolving public health crisis, Victim Services of Algoma in the Sault will receive $65,000 in addition to its annual funding allocation from the Ministry of the Attorney General.
Sault member of provincial parliament Ross Romano noted that, “given current social distancing measures, the prevalence of domestic violence in homes may become more frequent, and potentially more severe.
“This additional funding for Victim Services of Algoma will ensure that victims of crimes, particularly those experiencing domestic violence, will get the help they need to stay safe during the COVID-19 outbreak,” added Romano.
