The local Public Utilities Commission received an award in the category of worker safety during a recent “virtual” annual meeting and Ontario Electrical Safety awards event.

The award recognized PUC’s dedication to keep workers and the community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Efforts made by PUC at the beginning of the pandemic to provide community members and fellow workers with hand-made masks were most notably acknowledged. The masks were sewn and distributed to community members and fellow workers at a time when they were not readily available.

As a result, local residents and PUC crews providing essential services were able to stay safe when they could not maintain physical distancing.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff stepped up to protect fellow workers and the community, advocating for safety in the communities we serve”, stated Robert Brewer, president and chief executive officer of PUC Services Inc.

“I would like to acknowledge PUC’s chief operating officer Claudio Stefano and the entire operations team for their efforts to keep everyone safe during these challenging times,” Brewer added.
