Smiles and files in downtown
Thousands — yes, thousands — of local residents filled the downtown area between Pim and Spring along Queen to help make the first street party of the summer a spectacular success.
The event, which began at 6 p.m. on Thursday and ended more than five hours later, featured live music, games, street vendors and plenty of smiles and foot traffic.
Compared to a similar event from last summer, this one conservatively had about five times the number of people who headed downtown.
There were folks of all ages who were spotted — little kids, teenagers, young adults, middle-aged adults and senior citizens. Even a number of happy, friendly dogs accompanied their owners to the street party.
Outdoor patio bars at Mane St. Cafe and J. Caroline’s were filled to capacity. And inside Broers Jansen/The Wine Barrel, the cozy place was fully occupied with happy patrons.
A project of the Downtown Association, we give a resounding thumbs-up to what was a a night of considerable note.
