Varsity athletic teams at Sault College Cougars are coming off an impressive period of recruiting with several student athletes committing to the school ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

The busiest team was the Cougars men’s hockey program which signed five players from the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League and two more from the local high school program.

From the NOJHL are Cameron Lemcke (Powasson Voodoos), Liam McDonald (Espanola Paper Kings), Michael Starzomski (Soo Eagles), Gavin Disano (Blind River Beavers) and Jake Kovacs (Blind River Beavers.) The high school grads are both from the St. Mary’s Knights — Anthony Blonda and Daniel Guzzo.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cougars hockey program is bringing in a recruiting class that includes local standout Matea Glavota (Soo Jr. Greyhounds U18 AA) as well as Hayden Dunn (Belmont Blazers U18 AAA), Danika West (North Bay Jr. Lakers U18 AAA), Taryn Sullivan (Belmont Blazers U18 AA), Lily Wallsmith (Delta Hockey Academy) and Kate Jacques (Sudbury Lady Wolves U18 AA.)

And the Sault College men’s baseball has announced the commitment of infielder Brooks Aylward from the Thunder Bay Lakers.
