Steelers finish first
Sault Steelers will hold the distinction of first place team in the 2024 regular season of the newly formed Power 5 Football League.
The Steelers powered their way past the visiting Tri City Outlaws on Saturday with a decisive 48-7 victory. The Steelers, Tri City and Sarnia Imperials all finished the regular season in the new look, four team P5FL with identical 4-2-0 records.
The tie breaker formula gave first place to the Steelers, who will face the fourth seed Sudbury Spartans at Rocky DiPietro Field next weekend. Tri City and Sarnia will meet in the other semi final. The winners of the two semi final games will meet the following weekend in the P5FL championship match.
In the regular season finale triumph over Tri City, the Steelers got three touchdowns from Brock Hoover and two more from Steve Hiiemaa en route to the one sided victory. Hoover hustled for 158 yards rushing on 14 carries and hauled in a TD pass from Steelers quarterback Ryan Yost.
