Daniel Laprade of KC Security Services

I had a chance to connect with the on-the-go owner of KC Security Services, Daniel Laprade, via telephone recently.

And like the owner himself, our conversation was reassuring and friendly, having known each other for years through our other roles in the community and by often seeing him working at many community events.

For someone so young, Daniel has quickly become a much respected and leader in the local security services scene.

He told Sault Business Matters that he has worked in the security industry for thirteen years and since 2015, owning his own company, KC Security Services.

It appears as though owning your own business is a family tradition with his parents and other family members owning KC Roofing and involved in KC Security.

The two businesses compliment each other which has been beneficial to both since at times, referrals often happen as a result.  It also helps that each company prides itself on providing great service and as a result KC Security has benefited from many positive word of mouth referrals.

When asked if owning his own security company was always an aspiration, Daniel explained that he had been working in British Columbia in the security field and it was there that he learned a lot and was able to shadow other experienced security staff.

He is licensed to work in B.C. as well and when the company he was working for there was sold, a shift happened in the way that it was operating and he realized he didn’t like it as much but still loved the industry itself.

So, Daniel felt with all the experience he had gained, it might be a good time to return to the Algoma region and go out on his own and so he took a chance and did.

Next month will be his seventh year in business and he must be doing something right as the company was voted “Best Security Company” in the Sault Star’s popular annual poll for the fourth year in a row (2017-2020).

There was a niche in the local market at the time that he felt he could help help fill. Daniel credits to sticking to what he knows best which is primarily patrols and security to be one of the main reasons why the business has been successful in the industry.

He tries hard to have a good working relationship with the other security businesses in the region recognizing that there are times that there may not be enough resources available for some particular jobs and he will try his best to help people find an alternate solution if unable to provide the service himself. When it comes to safety and security, this is both important and a credit to his character and genuine desire to help people.

The services provide by Daniel and his team include mobile patrols which include lock/unlock services, residential patrols, commercial patrols, parking enforcement, employee escorts, vacation house checks and believe it or not, the vacation house checks can even include watering plants, collecting mail — and the home patrols can be random or scheduled!

You can have peace of mind knowing that your home is being checked on a regular basis and not have to put that burden or rely on friends or family.  In addition this list of services can be customized for you and they are happy to work with you to provide what you may need.

Alarm response is another key service provided by KC Security.  They offer alarm response and key-holding services and can be the ones who respond to alarm events and check for signs of forced entry.  If a break and enter occurs, they will contact authorities and wait for their arrival.  They can be set up to be the primary response for both residents and businesses which takes that worry and stress away from you.

Another key role by provided by KC Security is stationary guard service which can vary from events, construction sites, schools, colleges, universities, residential and commercial properties, office buildings, loss prevention and this too can be customized.  In addition, medical alarm response is also now available so if you have a vulnerable loved one, their alarm response unit can provide quick access for health care providers to the residence through their key holding capabilities.

KC Security is often looking to add to its growing team and therefore, provides online training through the Ontario Security Hub and a link to take the test required to become a licensed security guard right from its website.   The option to apply to work for them is also available right from the site as well.

One question that often comes up is whether or not clients have to enter a long term contract and the answer is no, however there are discounts if you do sign up for long term.  Month to month is possible however!

The answer to this and other common questions is provided on their very helpful website at www.kcsecurity.ca under the FAQ section!

It is no secret that there are several security companies to choose from so when asked what sets them apart, Daniel pointed to the fact that he is very hands on and works in the field himself.  He prides himself on really having an appreciation for the issues our community is facing when it comes to safety and security and as mentioned he deliberately has chosen to only focus and provide the services he knows well.  For example, they use real time technology tracking all their patrols and incidents in real time with a 24 hour access online portal.

In addition to being experienced when it comes to security services and patrols, he is also a great community advocate who is passionate about our community and it shows. One community cause his business is proud to support is the “United Way Food Drive” and he hopes to be able to do this again when it is deemed safe to do events such as this again.

Some free and low cost tips for readers offered by Daniel during our chat when it comes to keeping your home or business secure is to invest in good exterior lighting.  Install motion lights, which help to deter from unwanted visitors who will be less likely to try and break in if it is super bright.  Also, he suggests making sure your windows are unobstructed offering a clear view of what is happening outside. Make sure your hedges are maintained and trimmed so that thieves will have fewer hiding spaces. Make sure your blinds are kept closed especially when you are not home.  Use timers on your lights if you are away a lot, invest in deadbolts and decent locks are some other helpful and low cost tips shared by Daniel.

Also, it is helpful to ensure that your address is clearly visible so that police can easily see your address if they have to respond to an emergency at your address.

From Sault Ste. Marie to Elliot Lake and points in between, KC Security is a great choice for peace of mind, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For your no obligation quote, give them a call at 705-998-2613 or fill in the handy form available on their website at www.kcsecurity.ca .
