Barring the unforeseen, Reggie’s Place Tavern, a popular watering hole located in Sault Ste. Marie’s downtown, is slated to open early next week, Sault Business Matters has confirmed.

Out for an afternoon stroll, I checked into Reggie’s for a quick look-around and was told by a long-time bartender at the establishment — which is located at the corner of Queen and March streets — that owner Reggie Daigle hopes to have the venerable gathering place re-opened next week.

Reggie’s Place Tavern has been closed since July of 2017 when a fire that started upstairs severely damaged the building. A few minor touch-ups were taking place in the bar area when Sault Business Matters visited today.

The aforementioned Daigle celebrated 25 years in business in June of 2015. The bar was previously known as the Central Hotel and it carried a bad reputation.

Daigle re-named the bar Reggie’s Place Tavern — opening it on June 4, 1990 — and through hard work and determination, helped transform it into a gathering spot that eventually became popular with locals of all walks of life.
