Reggie’s is open for business

The doors are open — and so is the bar. Reggie’s Place Tavern in downtown Sault Ste. Marie re-opened for business at 11 o’clock this morning.

The iconic local watering hole — which is located on the corner of Queen and March streets — had been closed since July 30, 2017, when a fire that started upstairs severely damaged the building.

But at 11:00 this morning, in a refreshed, spiffed-up downstairs, popular owner Reggie Daigle was in his familiar spot, behind the bar, ready to serve a few customers who had already wandered in.

“It feels good to be open again,” Daigle told Sault Business Matters. “It’s good to be back in business downtown.”

Daigle celebrated 25 years in business in June of 2015. The bar was previously known as the Central Hotel and it carried a bad reputation.

Daigle re-named the bar Reggie’s Place Tavern — opening it on June 4, 1990 — and through hard work and determination, helped transform it into a gathering spot that eventually became popular with locals of all walks of life.

Oh, by the way, tomorrow just happens to be June 4, 2019 — and will mark 29 years since Reggie’s Place Tavern first opened for business.
