Feature: The Boiler Room

One of the first things you will notice about the Boiler Room is the deliberate effort by the owners to maintain the natural beauty of this historic building while still making it a warm and welcoming, pub-like atmosphere that you want to hang out in with your friends and family.

If anyone has visited the Distillery District in Toronto, the vibe of the Boiler Room is similar to that.  Opening its doors in April of 2017, the Boiler Room located at 83 Huron St., has been serving up some of the best wood fired pizzas in the always-expanding hub of the Machine Shop, a historically-significant location that many recall as the former St. Marys Paper.

It has been really amazing to see the location re-purposed in such an innovative way.

When it first opened, the menu focus was definitely on wood-fired pizza on a state of the art wood fire oven. But realizing that not everyone may be in the mood for pizza, the menu now also carries what the Boiler Room calls “Not Pizzas.”

Some of these popular and creative menu items include the sriracha cod burger, the Clergue cutlet sandwich, prime rib melt, classic poutine or a more gourmet version of poutine known as the millwright special, which boasts the option of shaved prime rib or smoked chicken breast on top, just to name a few!

Lighter options such as salads, fresh cut fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, battered cheese curds are some of the items available.

Of course, by far, the pizzas are what the Boiler Room really excels at with several innovative varieties available.  You can’t beat the smoky flavour the wood fired oven adds.

It really is hard to choose a favourite so the best plan is to go with a few friends and order a few to try!  Pizzas vary from the Classic Margherita, to the vegetarian friendly Primavera, and for the meat lovers you can choose from options like the aptly named Machine Shop, Charcuterie, Boiler Room or perhaps if you ask nicely, you can even build your own!

Each week there is also a feature pizza of the week to add some variety.

Boiler Room staffer Horatio Jackson tells Sault Business Matters that they often run some drink specials and have some giveaway opportunities such as free Greyhound tickets so follow their social media pages to stay in the loop.

On the topic of drinks, the Boiler Room also boasts numerous varieties of beer on tap including local craft brew with beer flights available plus a very creative cocktail menu including the basil cucumber gin and tonic, the Grandmont mule and the Jackson Rum Punch.

Currently the Boiler Room is running a great deal of a pizza and beer for only $15 on Monday through Friday from 11 am – 5 pm.

The Boiler Room is the perfect place to go to before or after a concert or event at the venue, and has become very popular after a Greyhound game so get there early!

If you have the late night munchies, it’s a great place to satisfy your cravings since it is open late and it is one of the few places in town that is open seven days a week.

Horatio extends a warm invitation to visit them at the Boiler Room soon!
