It may rightfully be stated that Sault Ste. Marie came within less than 250 votes of potentially shooting itself in the foot at the recent federal election.
That is because Conservative challenger Sonny Spina came oh so close to unseating Liberal incumbent Terry Sheehan. And had Spina prevailed, the Sault would have been on the outside looking in given that Canada re-elected Justin Trudeau of the Liberals as Prime Minister for what is now a third term.

$7 million for area schools
It has been said that the health and safety of Canadians are top priorities for the governments of Canada and Ontario.
And both governments have put money where their mouths are. Sault member of parliament Terry Sheehan and Sault member of provincial parliament Ross Romano have confirmed joint funding for both the Algoma District School Board and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board to fund infrastructure improvements in order to protect students and staff from COVID-19.

Sault Ste. Marie member of parliament Terry Sheehan has confirmed more than $2.15 million in financial support for the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation.
A non-repayable contribution, the $2.15 million will help to mitigate the financial pressures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting the operations of the Sault airport for a one year. The project is expected to help maintain 13 local jobs.
