Students from a Grade 12 religion class at St. Mary’s College have completed a community service project that resulted in a donation to the St. Vincent Place men’s shelter.
The student group from the Sault’s Catholic high school was called SMC Action — and it organized a clothing drive.
St. Mary’s teacher Robby Calvano noted that he gave his students “the opportunity to do something good for our community and they ran with it.”

The weekend of August 28 to 30 has been proclaimed Canada United Weekend in Sault Ste. Marie.
And Rory Ring, who is the chief executive officer for the Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that mayor Christian Provenzano and Sault city council are supporting the Canada United movement that encourages buying and dining local.

The Iron Bridge Agricultural Society is planning a family fun event for Saturday, September 19.
The event will be held at the Iron Bridge Recreation Centre on Chiblow Lake Road.
Pre registration is taking place until August 14.
A minimum of five families must be registered or the event will be cancelled.
To clarify, only one person in the family entry has to be a member of the Iron Bridge Agricultural Society.

The tidy little grocery store at 133 Gore Street in the Sault’s downtown area recently resumed regular Monday to Friday hours.
Grocer 4 Good has re-opened following a shutdown relative to the COVID-19 pandemic.
And president and founder Lisa Vezeau-Allen, who is also a Ward 2 city councilor, relayed to Sault Business Matters that Grocer 4 Good is now in operation from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
An ability development program that was spearheaded by Vezeau-Allen and operates as a non profit model, the modest, 900 square foot Grocer 4 Good store originally opened late last fall.

‘Tea party-in-a-box’ is the name of a fundraiser that is being organized by the Sault Ste. Marie Museum.
And the kits for the upcoming fundraiser are available for early order until Wednesday, July 22.
In light of the COVID-19 crisis, the Sault Ste. Marie Museum has been unable to organize its popular ‘Tea and Scones’ event this spring and summer.
So, in its place, the local museum has created a way for folks to participate from their own homes.
